Do I need to be home for dog poop pickup? Your service questions, answered

Short answer

No. You don't need to be home for dog poop pickup. Leave the gate unlocked or share the code, keep your dogs inside, and we'll text you when we're on the way and send a photo of your latched gate when we're done. If we can't get into the yard on service day, the visit counts as completed.

Key takeaways

  • You don't need to be home: an unlocked gate or a shared code is all we need, and a visit we're locked out of counts as completed.
  • Keep dogs inside during the visit; we close and latch the gate and text you a photo before we leave.
  • We scoop in rain and cold, reschedule for lightning or ice, and catch up on snow-buried waste after the melt.
  • Plans are month to month: skip a visit or pause for trips of two weeks or more with a text, and cancel anytime with no fee.
  • If we miss a spot, tell us within 24 hours and we'll come back and clean it free.

Scooping is easy to picture. Gates, dogs, weather, billing and vacations take a little more explaining, so here are straight answers. Each one matches our Terms and Conditions, linked at the bottom of every page. For a walk-through of the visit itself, read what a pooper scooper service does.

Do I need to be home for dog poop pickup?

No. We need the yard, not you.

Recurring service happens on a regular day that we agree on with you after you sign up. On that day, make sure we can get in: an unlocked gate, or a code you've shared with us. If we can't get into the yard, the visit counts as completed, so a quick gate check the night before is worth it.

You'll get a text when we're on the way and a gate-check photo when we leave. You'll know the visit happened without watching the window. One-time cleanups work the same way, so you don't need to be home for those either.

What if my gate is locked or needs a code?

Share the gate code, and we'll use it every visit. If you use a padlock, unlock it on service day, or switch to a combination lock and send us the combination. We only need the yard, not the house, so there's no house key or door code to hand over.

When we finish, we close and latch the gate and text you a photo. After we leave, gate security is your responsibility, and that photo is your record of how we left it. If a latch sticks or a gate won't stay shut, tell us about it.

Tell us about anything else in the yard we should know about, too: hazards, sprinklers, an invisible fence, or areas to stay out of.

Should my dog stay inside during the visit?

Yes. Please keep dogs indoors while we're there. It keeps your dog and our team safe, and it lets us work quickly.

If an animal in the yard makes the visit unsafe, we may skip it, and that visit counts as completed. The on-the-way text is your cue to bring the dogs in.

Do you come in rain, snow or thunderstorms?

Rain and cold, yes. Lightning and ice, no: we reschedule, usually to the next available day.

Lightning is the line because the National Weather Service says there's no safe place outside when thunderstorms are in the area. Ice and other unsafe conditions get the same treatment.

Snow is its own season here. Detroit averages about 45 inches a season, with January and February the snowiest months, according to the National Weather Service's climate normals. During deep snow, we clean what's reachable and catch up once it melts. If we can't make up a visit that was our fault or the weather's, we credit it on your next bill. How do I pay, and when am I billed?

You sign up and pay online, and your plan renews monthly on the same date until you cancel. Here's how billing works:

QuestionAnswer
How can I pay?Card or bank account, entered at checkout. No card fees.
When is the first charge? At sign-up: your first month, minus any promotion. The first cleanup is free.
When are later charges? The same date each month. If that date doesn't exist in a month, like the 31st, you're charged on the last day of the month.
Why is my monthly price the same every month? It's your per-visit price times the average number of visits in a month, so a month with an extra service day costs the same.
Who handles my card details?Stripe processes payments. We never see or store your full card or bank account number.
Do I get receipts?Yes, by email, for every payment.
What if a payment fails? We let you know and retry over the following days. If it still can't be collected, we may pause service until your account is up to date, or end the plan.
Can my price change? We give at least 30 days' notice by email or text before a price change, and you can cancel before it takes effect. If you add a dog or change your schedule, your price changes with it, and we confirm the new price with you first.
Is tax extra? No. Prices include any tax that applies.
How do one-time cleanups work? The online price is a starting estimate, and we confirm the final price before we start. We invoice after the work; it's due within 15 days, payable by card or bank account through a secure link.
Does a one-time cleanup start a plan?No. It's a single visit, with no subscription.

The averages are 4.33 visits a month on a weekly plan, 2.17 every other week and 8.66 twice a week. See your exact numbers online in about 30 seconds.

Can I pause service while I'm on vacation?

Yes. Going away for two weeks or more? Text us at least one business day before your next visit, and we'll pause your plan. You won't be billed for the time it's paused.

For a shorter trip, text us before your service day and we'll skip that visit. A skipped visit doesn't change your monthly price, so for longer trips, a pause is the better deal.

How do I cancel?

Anytime. Use your account page, call or text (586) 325-7970, or email us. There's no contract, no minimum term and no cancellation fee, and you won't be charged again after you cancel.

The link to your account page is in your welcome email and every receipt. Service continues through the end of the month you've already paid for. We don't refund partial months, except when we can't provide service you've paid for, like if we stop serving your area. Then we refund the unused part.

What do you pick up, and where does it go?

Dog waste, from the yard or the areas you tell us about. We double-bag it and put it in your outdoor trash can, or take it with us if you add haul-away for $4 a visit.

We walk the whole service area to find every pile we reasonably can. Waste hidden under snow, dense brush or standing water may get picked up on a later visit. Want potty zones to smell fresher? Add deodorize and sanitize, a pet-safe enzyme spray, for $8 a visit.

What if you miss a spot?

Tell us within 24 hours of your visit, and we'll come back and clean it at no charge. That's our Happy Yard Guarantee, and the free return visit is how we make a miss right. The window starts at your visit, so take a look around the yard the same day or the next morning. A quick photo or a note like "behind the shed" helps us find it.

What texts and photos will I get?

A heads-up when we're on the way, and a photo of your latched gate when we're done.

Those come with your consent to texts, along with messages about quotes, scheduling and billing. Offers come only if you opted in. Message frequency varies, and message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop texts or HELP for help. Agreeing to texts isn't a condition of buying our service.

Frequently asked questions

What if my dog gets out after you leave?

We close and latch the gate on every visit and text you a photo of it before we go. After we leave, gate security is your responsibility, so check the photo and tell us if a latch sticks or a gate doesn't close cleanly. We can't be responsible for a gate that's opened or comes unlatched after we're gone.

What if something in my yard gets damaged?

Tell us within 48 hours with a photo, and we'll make it right where we're responsible. We aren't responsible for damage that was already there, items in the yard we can't see, or lawn problems caused by pet waste or urine. That's why it helps to tell us about hazards, sprinklers and invisible fences before the first visit.

Can I change my plan or add a dog?

Yes. If your number of dogs, yard size, schedule or add-ons change, your price changes with them, and we confirm the new price with you before it applies. Just text us what's changing. Moving to a new home? Send us the new address so we can check that it's in our service area.

Do you serve my area?

We serve 22 communities in Macomb County, Michigan, by ZIP code. Enter your ZIP in our quote tool to check. If we find after you sign up that your address is outside our service area, we'll tell you before your first visit and refund anything you paid.
