Where Mount Clemens dogs roam
Mount Clemens has its own off-leash spot: Behnke Memorial Dog Park, a one-acre park inside Memorial Park at 300 N. Groesbeck. It's set up for non-aggressive dogs, with a people-and-pet drinking fountain, cleanup stations, a faux fire hydrant, benches and a tire obstacle course.
For leashed walks, follow the river. Clinton River Park lines both banks downtown, and Shadyside Park offers 41.6 wooded acres along the Clinton River, with fishing facilities and a pier with a boat and canoe launch. City code requires a leash of 6 feet or less in every park except the dog park.

Grid streets, deep lots and bungalows
Mount Clemens neighborhoods mostly sit on traditional grid streets, and the houses span generations. The city's master plan puts the biggest share of pre-1939 homes north and south of Cass Avenue. South of the river, in the southwest quadrant, you'll find 1950s and '60s ranches and colonials on deep lots. East of Gratiot Avenue and Main Street, it's mostly modest bungalows.
Whatever your yard looks like, weekly service is a good starting point. Twice a week helps multi-dog homes, and every other week can cover one small dog. Hosting a party or moving out? Book a one-time cleanup.
The Clinton River runs right through town
The Clinton River isn't just scenery in Mount Clemens. It runs through the city, and the city says most of its storm water drains through catch basins into the river. Downstream, near the river's mouth, Lake St. Clair Metropark Beach has a history of closures tied to high E. coli, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
City stormwater guidance asks you to bag pet waste and toss it properly, so bacteria and parasites stay out of lakes and groundwater. We'd add one tip: get it bagged before the next rain.
The local rule: Off your property, public or private, collect it right away. At home, it has to stay confined or buried so it can't wash into streets, alleys or gutters, or create a nuisance. (Mount Clemens Code §35.219)
